Browser-local animated GIF editor

Add Text to GIF

Upload an animated GIF, add captions or labels on selected frames, preview the animation, and download a GIF result. The editor runs in this browser; your GIF, filename, text, and output are not uploaded by this site.

Use it only with GIFs you own or have permission to edit.

What This Tool Does

AddTextToGif.net is built for the common "add text to animated GIF" task. You can place more than one text layer, choose colors, outline, shadow, background, opacity, alignment, and apply each layer to all frames or a specific frame range.

The export keeps the original canvas size and animation timing within the tested browser limits shown in the editor. A safe built-in sample GIF is provided so you can try the workflow without using someone else's media.

How It Works

  1. Choose a GIF file or load the sample GIF.
  2. Add or edit text layers and drag the selected layer in the preview.
  3. Set the start and end frames for captions that should appear only part of the time.
  4. Export and download the animated GIF from your browser.

For a step-by-step walkthrough, read the how-to guide.

Privacy and Limits

Processing is local to your browser. The site does not create public output pages, store your text, or send image data to a server. Browser memory still matters, so very large, very long, or heavily detailed GIFs may be rejected with a clear error.

Supported Output

The downloaded file is an animated GIF. The encoder uses a 256-color GIF palette per frame, so photographic GIFs may show normal GIF color reduction. Text layers are rendered into the final animation.
